1776 Movie musical review! (I seen it already long ago)
So as the title says, I already seen this movie so this isn't a fresh off the press perspective. But still, I loved it so much and it's the 250th Year for America so why not!? I'm gonna talk about why it's such a good movie/musical, what's wrong with is (probably alot of historical complaining) and such.
Don't expect spoiler warning, this movie is literally based off real-ish events so yeah. Also it's pretty old so its kinda your fault lol. Still. Spoilers if you care :/
So, as a musical. I fucking love it. The sappy love songs don't hook me though (I honestly skip them) but the other songs? I randomly find myself humming the catchy tunes and singing the lyrics or rather mumbling them alot. So on the musical front, the movie is really really good at making everything feel dramatic and somewhat weight.
Historically? The vibes were very accurate. The exact details are anachronistic and at some points just straight up imaginary. But still! I give it a forgiving leeway because Ultimately the musical was just trying to send 2 messages. 1 would be "This music is gonna slap and you'll fucking like it" which is true lmao. But also it's 2, "This is basically what happened in the Continental Congress emotionally". It's a good historical film when it's obvious that it wasn't pushing too hard on being educational. It was mostly a piece of media that reflects how a bunch of landowners, cobblers, lawyers and other professions meet in one place from their respective colonies and homes arguing if they shall finally cut ties with their mother land.
Yeah, unfortunately this post is gonna be short. It's late but overall? I give the film a 7.5/10, I give the original broadway musical songs 9/10 My favorite song from the musical itself: My name is Richard Henry Lee!
