Backrooms Movie Review
So, alot of this is fresh in my mind so my opinion is very malleable, it can change and such but this is what I think.
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS. I WILL SPOIL BACKROOMS, INCLUDING THE ENDING. YOU ARE WARNED.

I'm a very jumpy guy, I get scared easily so for most horror fans, I'm not sure if it's justified if I say it but it genuinely was a good thriller.
8.5/10
Overall, it was enough horror for me to enjoy but beyond that, the story itself got really interesting. Considering that if you have seen the youtube series, you'd see plenty of overlapping connections. With the Async corpos to the levels of the backrooms (well what amount of levels we did see, it did lack on that), it's alot of references to the series but also analog horror ambience as well, with one thing stuck out was one of the songs. B1 - All that follows is true from Caretaker, this song came on during the scene where the mom and daughter were in a mental asylum or whatever. (Here is the song!), and it's just swell.
So, what was it basically? Some furniture store guy named Clark, and he's seeing this therapist named Mary. And eventually one night he ended up in the backrooms, got his 2 workers to come and see and they got fucking killed. Eventually we see flashbacks to Mary's past as a child (I think???) with a paranoid mom. We then get into some part I don't really like...
Entities are fine, I don't mind entities in the backrooms. However, what I didn't like and it took the 9.5/10 down to 8.5 is because I genuinely think the human-ish looking entities are just bad. They're not super scary to me, even with the big pirate clark biting a chunk out of the human normal clark. Because at that point it started to feel less "Backrooms" and more like any other overused mimic? If that makes any sense? I fucking love entities and creatures in horror that are BEYOND human comparison, shit that's abstract and un-human, like the black wired thing (I learned that it's called "The Bacteria" or whatever the fuck). When you make the entities look human-ish, it doesn't really scare me, even if its not exactly human. It makes me think about skinwalkers and oddly enough a skinwalker wouldn't scare me because thats the problem. I'm the type of person to assume it's fine until it fucking kills and eats me lmao.
Anyways, the ending was shocking not because of content... but the fact how it ended so abruptly and gave it an open ending with Mary's backrooms copy (I heard there might be a second movie, perhaps a three act series?), which I personally am fine with! I don't hate horror with deep lore but even then, I love horror that gives NO answers, it makes you wonder over and over the possibilities and that's cool in my book, it gives creative space to interpret and people can make headcanons that are potentially cooler than the original. But I'll digress.
So yeah, in the end, I came out of that theater pretty content! It's a really good horror flick and was definitely worth my time and money. I genuinely can't wait for a second movie if there will be one! However I do keep my expectations low, hype is the killer of all joy and thats why I came in this review with such a high rating because I honestly said to my friend who saw the movie beside me "I'd like to keep a low expectation, this movie could be shit for all we know" and it wasn't! It really wasn't! That's the best thing about not expecting much, you get much more.
Anyways, I hate you all, go die...
jk, love you readers <3, here is your post song~! (by the way, if the song doesn't work, it's probably because the song didn't actually release as I am writing this, but you probably reading in the future are not gonna have this problem)
