The Writers Breaking Point

The TADC "Movie" event Review

Hi readers, yesterday I have just seen the ending to one of my most favorite internet animated series in a Theater packed with young adults (me), teens and even kids.

The Amazing Digital Circus had their Episode 9 come out along with Episode 8 (which I personally think wasn't really that needed to show in theaters), and this means that people who went in got to see the episode over a week early. The shocking part that wasn't shocking was that people coming in were in cosplay, dressing up, face paint, and even got their plushies of their favorite characters from the animated series. I personally will keep this post short and not delve into each and every detail. So lets get into it.

In general, I give this event (not really a movie, just a screening of 2 episodes) a 9/10, the point off is literally just because I think they really didn't have to make this a theater event. I would actually rather have seen Episode 9 here at home. But here is my reasons why. Spoilers ahead.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS. I WILL SPOIL THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS: THE LAST ACT, INCLUDING THE ENDING. YOU ARE WARNED.

Ending the series with the premise that the characters; Pomni, Jax, Ragatha, Gangle, Zooble, turning out to never have been humans is awesome. I know I've heard of this concept before in some other media but still. The idea that these characters were never humans but rather brainscan copies that got trapped in here, makes so much sense than just VR prison or whatever. Actually that makes sense. The characters that just came in always freak out and try to pull their face off like a VR headset. Interesting.

Anyways, I loved the beginning of seeing them desolate and broken apart, seeing Kinger become a wizard of Conjuring and practicing the group over time. And it took me a minute but when I saw the abstract monster, I thought the abstraction hole was like broken open. But no, turns out Jax really just abstracts finally.

Another crazy thing that I actually loved in Ep 9, is Ragatha and Pomni finally hugging. It was such a longer than expected scene but honestly? I loved it. Seeing the two finally just hug in a time of fear and existantial terror. It's the kind of platonic love finally becoming physical when they really do need each other at this point. Otherwise, they'd all abstract (which was considered death but maybe its curable).

What else... Pomni getting into Jax's abstraction was pretty interesting and neat. I actually loved the third door she went into. That version of Jax in Loony Toons shit with Zooble falling is hilarious. Also seeing Jax's memories after all this was really good, finally we get to see why he was running. Turns out he thinks he killed his mom and got homeless, running away from home.

Again I won't get into each detail but seeing the ending where they reconcile with caine, who had his own like relearning and oh yeah, I guess he's not actually dead. But point is, the whole way through, the experience was good. Seeing their humans continue living life without ever EVER meeting each other, that's the bittersweet ending that was necessary. The characters live as a found family in the circus. The humans just live life, never have met each other EVER.

I definitely need to fucking rewatch and breakdown the details for myself and maybe I'll write a blog about that. For now, Take my review as is. And remember to love yourself, because people will love you too <3. Kinda like how the TADC characters stick together through the wastes of the broken circus and band together. Lots of fucking crying and hugging in that episode by the way. Can't wait for the youtube premiere.
